"Caris settled into her home on the beach, painting as if her life depended on it. Encouraged by Helen, she made short trips to other islands, sketching Orkney in all its moods, spellbound by its mystery and majesty. From her sketches, the canvases sprang quickly to life. She called them her Orkney Series, naming each one as she painted: Sanday Driftwood, Eday Stone, Storm’s Eclipse, Arc of Time, Viking Mist, Evening Seagrass.
The great evolution in her artistic expression brought with it other awakenings. She found that she needed certain colours and objects in her home. Soon the cabin was filled with beautiful and special things that mirrored her new life. Many of them came from Helen’s gallery.
Helen insisted on giving her the wooden bowl Caris had seen on her first visit to the shop as a cabin-warming gift. The bird handle was Viking, Helen said."
